Capture the Season explores the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of the holidays through no-fuss memory keeping prompts.
This week, we’re focusing on the transformation of our personal spaces as one example of the traditions that connect us through the years. If you haven’t downloaded the workbook yet, there’s never been a better time. You can jump right in with this week’s task!
Assignment # 2: The How
The use of evergreen trees, boughs and wreaths around Christmas has its roots in ancient festivals celebrating the return of the sun at the Winter Solstice, affirming the ongoing cycle of life. These meanings and symbols have evolved through history as cultures have interpreted them in connection with their own traditions and beliefs. Use images of your home’s holiday décor to explore the personal meaning of traditions in your family.
This week, think about the images you will use for this assignment. Capture more if needed. Then sit down and prepare the journaling you will eventually use on this layout. Use one of this week’s templates to inspire the photos you capture.
Notice there is a lot of journaling in both templates; consider going beyond the surface in your writing. Share, in your words, the importance of tradition to you and yours!
