The change in seasons (in the Northern Hemisphere) rewards the scrapbooker with a bounty of photo opportunities: Halloween, pumpkin patch or apple orchard visits, high school homecoming parades, football games, along with nature’s changes such as strong shadows and colorful trees, to name just a few. It’s a time to strap on the camera, and a sweater, and get outside!
If you like to be current with your scrapbooking, and scrap “in season,” there are plenty of scrapbooking products for the season, many of which debuted at CHA Summer 2011, hitting the shelves of local scrapbooking stores and online shops. Everything from sophisticated, home-decor inspired papers to whimsical kits are available. I’ve shared some inspirational layouts and a selection of available supplies below.

Tips for fall scrapbook layouts:
- Consider a two-page sketch or template for your fall layout. Two-page layouts are more forgiving for those ‘less than perfect’ photos. At the same time, they allow the story to unfold with a variety of photos.
- Rather than stress over what to title your layout, consider digital titles or traditional chipboard stickers for your title work.
- Don’t forget to take both portrait and landscape photos, as well as detail and big picture shots. Especially when working with a two-page layout, you’ll want to have a variety of photographs. For an event like Halloween, consider creating a checklist of photos you’d like to take in advance of the big night.
- Short on time? Use a kraft paper background with a few embellishments and forgo patterned papers. Print your photos with a white border so they’ll stand out against the background.
- Scrap with supplies that you like and don’t worry about what’s in style. You’ll be more invested in a project if you enjoy working with the supplies.

Thanks for recognising not all of us are heading into autumn. 🙂 It can be a frustrating time of year for a southern hemisphere scrapper with such a focus on autumn, halloween and thanks giving. Projects just seem that little less inspiring when you don’t connect with the subject/topic.
