Scrapbooking with Instagram Photos

Scrapbooking Ideas

Way back in the day I collected baseball cards and even sold sports card supplies for the family business. A few weeks ago, I did some searching for odd-sized pocket page protectors; I knew there were configurations in the 8.5×11 size that scrapbookers hadn’t considered.

I wasn’t sure I would find anything inspiring, but I wanted to look. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that pocket page protectors for coins have 2 inch by 2 inch slots. And what else is often 2×2?

Instagrams.

Last week I wrote about how I prepare my Instagram photos for printing. This post is about what I am doing with some of those images.

This year I am participating in the Take Twelve Project with Ella Publishing. On the 12th day of each month, I’m snapping twelve photos that document my life, right now. I think I might even skip Week in the Life this year because this project will capture a lot of those little bits of our days in the year 2012.

I’m using my iPhone and the Instagram app because I like how the vintage filters help celebrate the smallness of life. There is something about retro-style photo processing that can elevate the most mundane image to something truly special.

I also appreciate the ease of sharing my images via Instagram, taking just a fraction of the time for uploading the same image via the HootSuite app.

I didn’t want to just include my images by themselves in a page protector, but I also didn’t see the need for a ton of journaling. I wanted to scrap them in an easy and fun way that told its own story.

I found a selection of coordinating papers from my stash and trimmed them to 2×2. I then used just a few embellishments to add some dimension and tell more of the story. Though I am not participating in Project Life, the wealth of inspiration for modular, smaller-scale scrapbooking was certainly an influence on my creative choices.

The goal of the 2012 Take Twelve Project is to take 12 photos on the 12th day of each month for a full 12 months—and scrapbook them! You can join in the fun any month of the year. Get the scoop at ellapublishing.com/taketwelve.

I love it! It’s a brilliant way to preserve the Instagram photos. I am putting mine on 3×4 journal cards and using one of the Project Life page protectors with lots of little slots, but this is so simple. Fantastic idea 🙂

You can still use my template referenced last week (link below) to print out 2×2 prints from any kind of camera or camera phone app that would fit in these page protectors.

The whole 2×2 thing started when the Instagram app first came out and that was the maximum size you could print them at 300 ppi.

If you want vintage effects, I know there are PS/PSE actions and Lightroom presets to mimic those effects. Plus, I hear there are lots of cool camera apps for Android too.

I found this post from a pin and I am so glad I did. I see you mentioned Android apps. Instagram app is available for Android. If you have a Droid phone that has a different operating system I am not sure what is available to that market. I have started reviewing apps for Android at MesstakenIdentity.com if you want to see what I come up with. This week was Photoshop Express.

Love your version of the Take 12 challenge!!!! I am also using Instagram to take my 12 on the 12 but have not figured out if I was going to scrap them like a regular page or do something else. Your version is quite creative and unique! TFS it!

I bought some of those pages years ago, because I had to have them. Just found them buried under my desk last week, so this timely post has my mind ticking over all the possibilities! thanks!

I just ordered my first batch of 2×2 Instagrams, Hipstamatics & regular pics that I cropped down to 2×2. Excited for them to arrive. I am grabbing a coupon and heading out to Joann’s to see if I can find a 2in square punch to really make this easy!

One thing to know, is that there is no perfect 2″ square punch that I have found. Mine is roughly 2.125×2.125, thus too big for the pockets. Also, some punches are sized by the diagonal measurement. Best to bring a tape measure.

There are 12×12 WRMK page protectors that hold 9 to a page of the 4×4 size. Also, I know that Becky Higgins is planning more square pocket pages for Project Life.
