Armed with 25 Days of Templates, are you ready to Journal Your Christmas and December Daily life? There are so many great approaches to holiday scrapbooking, that it is easy to get overwhelmed.
You can do digital, hybrid, traditional, simple, elaborate, product-heavy, and product-light. You don’t even “have” to do more than your normally do for a celebration – make a few pages or a photo book. To decide on my own strategy, I asked myself these two questions:
- What approach most inspires me to create?
- How can I tailor this approach to my lifestyle?
It was important that I focused first on what felt intuitively exciting and right-for-me, because almost any project could be altered to the time and supplies at my disposal.
My 2011 Strategy for Christmas Memory Keeping
Last year I completed 6 pages documenting the holiday season, according to prompts from my Capture the Season workbook. It was a great experience and I’m so glad I could share it here with you. However, I will be the first to admit it was a little too rigid.
Throughout the year I’ve been committed to scrapbooking as the inspiration strikes, to being prepared with camera and journal to document the stories of my life. With only myself to be responsible to (i.e. no teams), it’s been liberating.
When it came time to decide on my holiday approach, I knew a creative and unstructured approach (supplemented with easy access to inspiration) was in order.
I will be capturing my memories in a mini album roughly inspired by the December Daily framework. I will organize my album into three broad, inspiring themes: gratitude, joy and dreams. I will not be scrapbooking every day or attempting to keep a sense of chronology to the book. I will use Journal Your Christmas prompts to spark and supplement my writing.
It is about as simple as that. You can see all of my supplies on scrapbook.com – but this approach is one that lends itself very well to any items from your stash. To me, its about creating a semi-organized collage of my holiday life and not about documenting serious details. It is a celebration of the season, of goodness in our hearts and a renewal of spirit for the new year.
How have you decided to document your holidays?
I’m in Shimelle’s class, Journal Your Christmas, since 2007. Although I haven’t finished any of the three previous albums, I’m really excited to start tomorrow with this year’s edition.
I’m dealing with some personal/health problems right now, and I think this is going to be a great therapy for me. A little while every day for myself, to reflect, think, write, create,…
I also love to take a look to other scrappers’ projects, so inspiring!! Love the sharing too 🙂
Can’t wait to start!!
I’m doing Journal Your Christmas too. I’m using that as a traditional scrapbook following her prompts to express feelings and moments of the holidays, but I’m also doing 25 Days of Templates as a digital scrapbook to document photos from December.
this is my third year following JYC, and the first year I’ve made it past day two! I also signed up for Holiday Templates, so I can learn more about digi-scrapping, and maybe create an album for printing… we’ll see how it goes
