The ABCs of Simple Scrapbooking is a 26 episode video series. In each episode, I’ll explore one fundamental idea of stress-free memory keeping.
X is for Xeroxed
Somewhere along the way, we all got the idea that originality is essential. In this video, I’ll dispel this myth and explain why you should be a copycat at least some of the time.

Tell Your Story
I would love to hear your voice in this conversation. Do you have scrapbooking ‘recipes’ you follow? Do you regularly scraplift yourself?
If you enjoyed this video and want to know the moment I upload another, make sure to subscribe in iTunes or on YouTube.
I very much love your videos. having recently been introduced to you through Melissa’s digi-scrapbooking site.
When you say in this video look for a specific idea to try, I believe you would mean things like visual triangle, emphasize a ‘line’, etc.
– Do you have any ‘specific’ resource that defines how scrappers can improve by understanding basic design principles? – i.e. like Debbie Hodges and Noell Hyman who give 5 layouts or so, demonstrating the same technique,
Thanks Carol.
I meant more looking at galleries and finding entire layouts or parts of layouts that you want to replicate. That is essentially how I taught myself to scrapbook. Over time I would start to mentally break it down – is it the photo placement, the layering, the way items are clustered etc. that I like and what can I teach myself about design from that.
To be fair I had a million years of art classes in school, so a lot of the design part comes easier to me — which is why I don’t teach it. I recommend Debbie’s Masterful Scrapbook Design magazine for learning more. Noell’s videos are also good for sharing practical examples. I can’t think of other resources I would recommend more.
