For the past several months, I’ve been keeping a secret. This was not just a regular secret, but a really big one – one that I almost couldn’t believe myself. So trust me when I say that I’m thrilled to finally spill the proverbial beans!
This September I’m teaching my very first live workshop at Big Picture Classes. And here’s the kicker: I’m co-teaching with Stacy Julian! (For those who may not be familiar with Stacy, she literally wrote the book on simple scrapbooking in addition to being the founder of Simple Scrapbooks magazine and Big Picture Classes.)
As if it couldn’t get any more exciting, this workshop is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before! The Art + Science of Scrapbooking offers 16 brain-boosting challenges to strengthen your creative process. Here’s just a teaser of the description:
In four illuminating weeks, right-brainer Stacy Julian and left-brainer Jennifer Wilson will help you embrace your natural cognitive strengths. But they’ll also challenge themselves, each other, and YOU to find a new sense of balance and power as you explore the other side of your brain.
This is one of the biggest projects I’ve ever completed and it includes some of my best work ever. I’ve loved collaborating with Stacy as we explore how to stretch and grow as scrapbookers in a very unique way. Plus we’ve captured our conversations on video for you to enjoy in the classroom!
Art + Science opens for registration very soon. Watch your email for the announcement! In the meantime, here are some fun sneak peeks of three class layouts:
Before you go, I’ve love to know… do you consider yourself a left-brainer or a right-brainer? Leave a comment!
I’m probably a left brainer when it comes to scrapbooking.
I’m a right-brainer who really would like to be a left-brainer…so I end up eclectic-ambi-brainer!
Boy what a question! In some respects I’m organized – I like to do things in a logical manner, then in other respects I’m creative – sometimes my imagination takes over and I get unusual results. So call me a cross-brain.
Oh yes, Congratulations Jennifer. I’ll definitely look into the BP class.
Congratulations!
I have no idea if I’m left or right brained…is there a legitimate test out there on the internet than help determine it?
Isn’t it funny how we’ve all come to rely on the internet for everything! 🙂 I was thinking the same thing!!! 🙂
I’m definitely a left brainer! Can’t wait to find out more details on the class!
oh. My. GOSH!!!!! What a FABULOUS collaboration!!! It’s like my scrapbook DREAM CLASS!!! I’ve been a total “Stacy-head” for years, completing numerous BPC classes with her: LOM, FPF, Twelve, and I’m prepping for i.Scrap. Then I found Jennifer, oh, in the last year and a half, and have followed her into FOCUS, and other projects. Wow. To quote a famous scrapbook mogul, “This is BIG!” Do not be shy about the marketing on this one.
oh. uh. I’m right-brained. That’s artsy, right?
More of a left-brainer.
Not sure where I fit – guess I’ll have to research that a bit and get back to you…
I’m organized, linear, but can be creative…
wow – amazing! Congrats!
btw, I’m a little of both left and right brain… just depends on the flow of the moment!
I am definitely right brained!
Amazing news Jennifer! I can’t wait to see what you come up with for this BPC class!
Wow CONGRATULATIONS!!
I’m so excited for your class, and what an great opportunity to work with Stacy, one of my faves.
I”m a bit of both but more so left brain.
Super Fantastic!!!
I have been a SJ follower for a LONG time – even made a scrapbook layout about her in 2008 (BTW it is located in my “People We Love” binder :-))
I am definitely left-brained. I like organization and to follow “recipes” although I am right brained enough to fudge the “rules” when I have reached a comfort level with the skill. (let’s be wild and throw in some spices)
I was one who mourned SS magazine. I never connected to CK like I did with SS. I especially missed Ali Edwards’ work. This collaboration makes me so happy; perhaps it will renew my scrap booking spirit. As much as I want to be a right-brain scrapper, I cannot fight the need for clean lines and coordinating materials together. Too linear for my own good!
Thanks for the good news!
Congratulations Jennifer! How exciting! I don’t believe I was around digi-land yet when Simple Scrapbooks magazine was active, but I’ve sure heard of people missing it. I am both right and left brained, probably equally, and the two sides are constantly at war with one another. 😉
Very exciting! I will be interested to learn more about the class. I am DEFINITELY left brained. In everything, including scrapbooking.
Congratulations Jennifer! What exciting news!
And I’m definitely left-brained but wishing I could be a little more right-brained.
How exciting!!! congratulations!! I’m probably most accurately described as Left-brained. I like to scrap with STRUCTURE, so I always start with photos that make sense and then use a sketch…now when I scrap, I am creative WITHIN the structure the sketch gives me. I’m only right brained in that little 12 x 12 space! 🙂 I have a son who is totally right brained…he’s even left handed…and its SUCH a joy and a challenge to have somebody who sees the world that way in my life! I can’t wait to see what this class brings!
This is fabulous and super exciting! Looking forward to this class!
Awesome news Jennifer!! I’ll be checking out the class!
I am definitely a left brainer
I tend to be a mix of both, however, lately my left brain has been more in charge and the fun is slipping away as I agonize about keeping it straight and clean, while loving the messy and artistic. This souds like just what the doctor ordered.
I am also a long time student over at BPC and think that this is wonderful news. CONGRATULATIONS…!!!
Congratulations on the collaboration from a mixed-up brain! Very exciting news.
Such exciting news! I think I’m one of the lucky ones to be pretty much equally left- and right-brained; I can call on whichever part I need whenever I need it. No matter what sort of brain a scrapbooker has, we are all bound to enjoy a class that mixes up you and Stacy!
A dream team – looking forward to hear more!
I think I´m more right brained – sometimes I would like to switch between both 😉 to be more organized.
Wow! Great question! I am totally a right-brainer but my left brain will not be ignored for long. My logical, step at a time thought process definitely tries to tell my right brain that it has to done things in a certain order. I really need to overcome this!
Sadly a left-brainer all the way….
Love to find ways to expand my right-brain thinking
I’m a right brain 95% of the time & a left brain 5% of the the time. I’d love to increase the left side % a bit more though. Anything involving Stacy Jullian is always awesome!!
When I choose papers to purchase, I’m right brain. Left takes over to do planning, then right brain creativity takes over in the process. All the self reflection must mean left, though!!!;D
Too much of a right brainer! It’s why I have so many lists all over the house, I’d forget everything otherwise.
I like to believe that both sides of my brain work equally well. As an attorney by profession, my left brain organization and analytical skills are well-honed. But as an artist (and I do consider myself one), my right brain LOVES to play!!! Class sounds interesting – will have to check it out.
How exciting for you Jennifer! Congratulations! In answer to your question, I think I’m a little of both left and right brainer.
I am definitely more left brain. Looking forward to delving deeper into my neglected right brain!!!!!
Way more of a lefty than I’d like to be while wishing I was a lot more of a righty than I am.
With respect to the question of R or L brain, I’m going to declare the question invalid. (Sorry!)
While we might have preferences (L leaning or R leaning), studies have shown that you need BOTH to function.
Furthermore, historically, society has encouraged the L side at the expense of the R side, which explains why we engineers (me included) spend years denying the R side.
Daniel Pink covers this in fabulous book “A Whole New Mind” (an easy read). Daniel’s contention is that the future depends on L+R brains, hence a Whole New Mind.
His book also proposes exercises to work out the R side.
One of them: tell stories. He actually mentions scrapbooking.
Go figure.
I certainly agree we need both, that’s very much the whole point of the class! Thanks for the reference.
I am sooooooooooooo right brained, that I’m often running after myself!
I’m BI-brained!!! 🙂 However, my left-brain is held back a bit by my right-brain. Silly as it sounds, i was criticized by the second grade art teacher-humiliated actually, and it’s stuck with me ever since. Isn’t that crazy!!! Can’t seem to shake the old bat! HA! I should take this class to push her off the cliff! 🙂
OH, and big woop-woop on the collab!
This is wonderful news!
