As part of our Simple Tip Saturday series this year, I’m inviting fresh voices into the mix. Today we’re hearing from Simple Scrapper team member Jennifer Larson with her simple tip.
What is one way you simplify scrapbooking?
I use formulas for creating embellishment clusters. Layering embellishments is really hot right now, but I don’t reinvent the wheel every time I want to create a cluster. Instead, I follow this formula:
- Something flat (die cut, sticker, stamped image, punched image)
- Something dimensional (button, chipboard, dimensional sticker)
- Something textured (twine, paint, distressed edges, stitching).
What problem does it solve for you?
This formula narrows my options. When I want to layer embellishments on a page, I don’t have to go through all my embellishments; I just go through the product categories for each step until I find something that works. Then my search is narrowed for the next step and the next.
Why do you think it works so well?
It works for two reasons. Once I’ve done something often enough, it becomes automatic, so I can layer embellishments much quicker now. In addition, I’ve organized my materials according to these categories to make it easier to look through my embellishments.
How can others get started with it?
Grab a tag and a button and layer them. I prefer off-centered layering. Tie a bow through the tag with twine or ribbon, then place your embellishment cluster on your page next to something important—the title, the journaling, or the focal point photo.
Simple Tip Saturdays are for sharing easy ideas to grab and run.
