As part of our Simple Tip Saturday series this year, I’m inviting fresh voices into the mix. Today we’re hearing from Simple Scrapper team member Kimberly Kalil with her simple tip.
What is one way you simplify scrapbooking?
To simplify my scrapbooking process, I’ve become a kit scrapper. I used to search through all of my digital supplies looking for individual elements that would work “perfectly” for my page. But now, I use a single kit per page or pages in the case of my Project Life spreads. I pick the kit before I start and then I stick with just that kit and its contents while working on a page.
What problem does it solve for you?
Using just a single kit per page or project makes my scrapping much faster. I save a lot of time since I’m not scouring my supplies for bits and pieces to use on the page.
Why do you think it works so well?
It keeps me focused on the task at hand – the page I’m working on – rather than what bits I might add. I have a limited number of options – what’s in the kits I have chosen – and that forces me to be more creative with my choices and design.
How can others get started with it?
Go out a buy yourself a new kit. I’m sure you have a gazillion kits, but treat yourself to a new one for this exercise. Create a page using just that kit and see how it feels. If you’re a paper scrapper, shop your supplies to make a kit of your own and create a page or project with just the contents of the “kit.”
I love kits too
I love using kits, because it makes combining lots of patterned paper, easy. I also make my own kits in bulk. I will spend a couple of days just putting together kits from my stash. I start with the pictures, then pick the embellishments I want to use with it (since they seem to be the most costly), and then include the paper to be used. Maybe even a sketch or template if I am really organized. Then when I go to crops I have all of my stuff in page protectors ready to pull out and only have to pack my actual tools.
