What is one way you simplify scrapbooking?

I am a kidless person, so most of my scrapbooking is of myself and my everyday life. One way that I simplify scrapbooking is by scheduling a time each week to take a selfie and jot down a little bit of journaling about what’s going on in my life right now. Each Thursday, I make it a priority to take a photo of myself and write down three facts. I post my photo to Instagram for a little bit of added accountability.

What problem does it solve for you?

Because I’m primarily documenting my own life, I need to take a fair amount of photos of myself to keep my scrapbooks looking fresh. The problem is that there is never really a great time to stop everything I’m doing and take pictures of myself and my life going on around me. Sure, I’m pretty good at remember to take pictures of all the special stuff, but I was sorely lacking in photos of myself in everyday life. I solved this problem by making selfies a priority, thinking I would be thrilled if I had one photo of myself each week. With this goal in mind, I decided to schedule time for myself every Thursday to take a selfie and write three facts about my right-now life.

Why do you think it works so well?

It works well for three reasons: 1). I made taking selfies a priority. I thought about a change I wanted to make, I made a goal, and then set up a system to help me achieve that goal. 2). Public Accountability.  After a few weeks of sharing my Thursday photos, a few people started to play along, and knowing that there are other people there who are excited to see you check in with your photo and life update make it that much easier to do. 3.) It’s just not that difficult. It’s one photo and three facts each week. It takes five minutes out of my life, and the work pays off in dividends. I’ve been doing this project for more than a year now, and I’ve accumulated enough photos and facts about my everyday life that documenting who I am has become just that much easier.

How can others get started with it?

If you want to get started, the first step is to snap a photo of yourself and write down three things about your right-now life each week. For a little bit of public accountability and a great community of supportive and inspiring women, share your photo and your 3 right-now facts on Instagram, facebook, or other social media sites using the hashtag #Thursday3. If you’re playing along on Instagram, tag me @rukristin — I’d love to see your face <3.

I have played along with #Thursday3 and love it so much! It’s a great way to have facts about me along with a few selfies. I love that the selfies are more than just “here is a selfie of me!”

Like the idea of giving selfies a purpose with those 3 facts. I mostly take goofie selfies with my grands, which is fun for all concerned, but the entertainment would last longer with those three facts. Thanks for the tip!
